until fozzy mentioned hem3 is very ram intensive. I thought 16gb ram is more than enough as people said and nobody almost need 32gb ram.

Now i could always upgrade my ram from 16gb go 32gb in the future easily, but would it be better to just upgrade it now so there won't be any possible upgrades left for ram? then 16gb ram? I see most laptops configured now is mainly 8gb ram. I assume majority of you have 8gb ram right. He even said one guy had such a huge database, that his 32gb ram was slow on his computer etc but thats rare.

I bought 16gb of ram recently but didn't open the package yet as I wasn't sure if i should upgrade to 32gb ram or not.

Right now its using like 6.2gb/7.9gb ram and I have about 20 chrome tabs opened. I do have a ton of chrome tabs on though. I been using 8gb ram ever since I got the laptop years ago and its fine. Now, I always read years ago 32gb is almost never necessary. Processor is i5-6300hq and it still is good. Laptop is dell and been using it since late 2016 so its pretty old. There is no more possible upgrade I can make to it as cpu cannot be done
The only upgrade that I can make to my laptop is the ram. I got over 700gb space left in it even after cloning from the old ssd in my laptop to it. I bought a new 1tb samsung evo 970 nvme ssd as I want to continue using the laptop for a long time as old ssd running low on space.

Is it worth the extra cost and waiting time for delivery (2 weeks) for the upgrade to the i7 processor and/or 8 GB RAM? Is there any appreciable difference in time running final cut pro on an i5 imac with 4GB RAM vs.So I recently updated my laptop with a new ssd and cloned the old one without an issue. However, someone else had told me that i5 imac with 4 GB RAM is more than adequate to run final cut pro, so I wonder if the upgrade really makes a difference. I am told that the i7 processor runs about 27% faster than the i5 and I could save quite a bit of time 'processing' the video with the i7.

I am new to both final cut and mac so I am not really sure if the upgrade is needed.
This is a custom order and will take about 2 weeks to deliver. I am debating between the imac quad-core, 2.8GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, which is in stock with my local apple dealer and can be picked up right away, or upgrading to the 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 and 8 GB RAM. The main use of the computer will be to use final cut pro for video editing of hdv.
